Description

A view of the main Gopuram of a typical Hindu temple in Kanchipuram, India: This is the Ekambareswarar temple, that is dedicated to the deity Shiva. It is among the most ancient Hindu temples, it is the largest one in the town and this Gopuram is among the tallest temple towers in India. It is an example of Dravidian architecture. The view is from a bit faraway, with a person on a bike and a stand of newspapers in foreground. This is the enlargement of a part of the scan of a slide taken in July-August, 1996.
